Asparagus

The majority of the green SanLucar asparagus is cultivated in Granada, in Southern Spain. There in the growing region near the Sierra Nevada Mountains with its big day to night temperature differences, the asparagus can unfold its entire aroma. Our partners have a lot of experience and know how in the cultivation of asparagus. By hand they just harvest outstanding green and soft asparagus in the same size. The white SanLucar asparagus needs sandy soils and that is why it is cultivated in the growing regions of Jaen and Extremadura. During the asparagus season this variety is harvested daily.

SanLucar' Tip:

  • You can recognize fresh asparagus on the closed tips. The asparagus end should not be dry.
  • To avoid shrivelling and withering of the stalks, it is advisable to store them in the fridge in a humid cloth.
  • You should peel white asparagus! Use a potato peeler, vegetable knife or best a special asparagus peeler. Peel them in the direction of the head end to the cut end. Green asparagus does not necessarily need to be peeled, and if anything, just cut the end.
