The good ones for the punnet, the even better ones for SanLucar

Raspberry farmer Andres Morales on fruits

Before fruits and vegetables are allowed to bear the beautiful name SanLucar, the agricultural engineers at SanLucar spend a lot of time thinking about how it has to be. All existing raspberry cultivars for example are very delicious, but somewhat too delicate for diseases. Something we wouldn’t and couldn’t be satisfied with, so we continued to work on it for a long time, until we came up with the perfect sort of raspberry. We affectionatley call it "Brilliant". Big fruits, bursting with juice, blazing red and tasting heavenly sweet.

After harvesting, just before its journey to the supermarket, all fruit and vegetables will be put through their paces again.Everyday our agricultural engineers take several samples from each cargo and slit the fruits open. They check the size of the fruit, the intactness of the fruit’s surface, check the consistancy of the pulp and measure the fruit sugar content. Only when all of SanLucar’s strict parameters are right, will there bet the "okay" for shipping.

So it comes to be, only part of the harvest is allowed to proudly bear the name SanLucar. Harsh as it may sound – it's a matter of heart though, because we would rather sell less than make any compromise in quality.
