The royal way of travelling

Pineapple farmer Alberto Esquivel on logistics

Because of its beautiful crown the pineapple is called The Queen of Fruits. That goes especially for the SanLucar pineapple from Costa Rica. The fruit’s balanced relation on sugar and acid make it delicious and the even colouration without sun damage provides a majestic appearance.

Like all queens the SanLucar pineapple is used to traveling in luxury. On its way from the field to Europe it has a constant cooling in containers at 7 °C. It feels most comfortable that way and is safe from further ripening during the journey. After all the consumer is to get it like freshly picked from the field.

But other fruits do have their preferences, too. Strawberries love to travel at 2 °C, tomatoes stay beautifully firm at 7-10 °C and clementines don’t like it, when they are over 4 °C. To make it really fast, two drivers take turns. So in only 3 days the SanLucar strawberries from Spain make their way from the field to you. And, thanks to most modern logistics technology, The Queen of Fruits is still completely fresh when she is received in audience by you in the supermarket.
