Unmask the sweet fatteners

Everybody knows that there’s sugar in chocolate, bonbons and sweets. But ready-to-serve meals, multivitamin and tea drinks, dressings and sweetened milk products can contain substantial portions of hidden sugars.

Diabetics should therefore pay close attention to the list of ingredients. Sugar is often found here under terms such as sucrose, glucose, dextrose, fructose, lactose, maltose, dextrin or maltodextrin.

Syrup also consists almost entirely of the sweet substance. The further up on the list of ingredients, the higher the sugar content. Unfortunately, most producers still do not explicitly state the sugar content.

Therefore, my tip: If a food has many calories and at the same time a low percentage of fat, there will almost always be a lot of sugar in it!
