Mango

Our summer dream for a dream summer

Sonne und Liebe für unsere Mangos

Our mangos with their red cheeks love the warmth and the humidity. Therefore, they can grow for an extra-long time in a tropical climate at ideal temperatures of 25 to 28 degrees Celsius all year round. To ensure that the mango trees thrive splendidly, we water them with rainwater from collecting basins, which reaches the roots of the trees directly by droplet irrigation. That way, we save a lot of water. In addition, we always fight pests first with natural predators or by biological means. After about 20 weeks, our mangos are ready for picking. “Before we harvest them, we check their sugar content. Only when it’s high enough do our precious gems attain their sweet tropical flavour,” explains picker Flávio Moraes proudly – and they also get some very red cheeks.

Country of origin:

SanLucar mangos are grown in Spain, Brazil, Peru, the Dominican Republic and Senegal, where the climate is optimal and the soils are fertile.

Storage:

Mangos ripen after harvesting. They should not be stored below 12 degrees Celsius. To ensure that they do not lose their valuable ingredients, ripe mangos should not be stored for longer than a few days. Do not place the fruit together with apples, because they release ethylene gas, which makes them ripen and develop mould more quickly.

Tips and special features:

The fruits are incredibly versatile: they can be eaten by themselves, used as dessert or also for spicy curry dishes and salads. If you want to eat them in their pure state, you should halve the mango lengthwise and carefully cut it around the core. Then cut a check pattern into the mango half. Turn half of it over and cut off the mango cubes with a knife.

History:

The mango is a tropical fruit and comes originally from the area between the Indian Assam and Myanmar or from Borneo.
