Pineapple

Sweet, juicier, sweetest

Our Sweet Queen is particularly comfortable in Costa Rica’s climate because she gets just as much sun here as rain. The fruits are clever water collectors which – with their rosette wreath – direct the moisture to the center of the plant, so that their flesh becomes fresh and juicy. They are harvested by experienced pickers only when they have fully ripened after approx. 12-14 months and are golden yellow from the inside and out.

And then we have our delicious “Caribbean Gold” pineapple! This pineapple actually “basks” on the Caribbean beach until its skin is golden. It tastes flavorfully-sweet and has very soft flesh. Tropical feeling for your palate!
We grow our exotic delicacies in harmony with people and nature: On our plantations we have biotopes for animals and plants, and we reforest former cultivated areas. To save water, we use an intelligent cistern catchment system. And because our employees provide such sweet fruit, we ensure them good pay and training. That makes for even sunnier snacking, doesn’t it?

Sweet tip:

A pineapple has three flavour zones. Since the fructose shifts from top to bottom, it is particularly sweet at the base, balanced in the middle and sweet-sour at the top.

Country of origin:

Our pineapples thrive in the tropical climate of Costa Rica, where they get as much sun and rain as they need at an average temperature of 22–23 degrees Celsius.

Storage:

It is best to store the tropical fruit at room temperature. But don’t wait too long to eat them, because pineapples become overripe rather quickly.

Tips & special features:

The pineapple is a member of the bromeliad plants and can be grown and multiplied relatively easily. To do this, you only have put the leaf crown in a water glass and a let it take root. Then place the cuttings in a pot in a sunny room and let them grow.

History:

The fruit originates from the Mato Grosso plateau in the Brazilian Amazon. Shortly after their discovery, they were spread throughout Asia by the Portuguese and Spaniards. The cultivation of today’s varieties began in Central America.
