SanLucar presents corporate responsibility report

The social and environmental initiatives of the premium brand for fruit and vegetables extend to SanLucar’s different locations worldwide

(Valencia, Spain. Monday 27th January 2020).- On the occasion of the international fair Fruit Logistica, which takes place in Berlin from February 5 to 7, SanLucar releases a special publication under the name “DREAMS Magazine”.

With its emotional design full of photos and testimonies, the new magazine gives an insight into the social and environmental projects of the premium brand for fruit and vegetables.

«From the beginning, we always had the dream of growing fruit and vegetables in a way that we can be proud of. Until today, our corporate philosophy Taste in harmony with people and nature guides all our actions», explains Jennifer Heer, Communication and Corporate Responsibility Director of the SanLucar Group.

Within the corporate responsibility program DREAMS, SanLucar focuses on projects with direct benefits for the local communities in countries such as Germany, Austria, Spain, South Africa, Tunisia, Ecuador, and Costa Rica.

One of the major milestones in the multinational company’s responsible actions over the last two years was the opening of El Puchero Portuario. This is already the second soup kitchen the firm manages alongside the association Coordinadora Solidaria in the city of Valencia (Spain). Currently, 8.000 meals per month are distributed to people with low income and their families, while at the same time helping them to reintegrate into the working environment.

In Ecuador, SanLucar promotes an active lifestyle among young people with its sports school DREAMS. There, 400 boys and girls from the municipality of Puebloviejo already train regularly in basketball and football, completely free of charge.

In Tunisia, where the company has been present for more than ten years, SanLucar received the National prize for social progress granted by the president of the country in 2018.

During the same year, German customers visited SanLucar’s farms in South Africa. Impressed by the firm’s social commitment, they decided to support the DREAMS projects by founding the association “Träume werden wahr e.V.”. As a result, an addiction prevention program as well as a permaculture garden were financed in order to promote a healthier lifestyle.

In the environmental sector, SanLucar was able to reduce water consumption through special irrigation methods. Thanks to the use of probes that measure the humidity of the soil at the roots of the plants, the drought that South Africa suffered in 2018 could be overcome. In Tunisia, the company has succeeded in processing and reusing around 30% of the drainage irrigation water using environmentally friendly technologies that avoid the use of chemicals.

The SanLucar DREAMS Magazin will be available to visitors of Fruit Logistica at the company’s exhibition stand (hall 27, stand C21). For those who want to read it beforehand, the magazine can be downloaded from the website.

Furthermore, SanLucar will publish its progress report of the Global Compact in the summer of 2020. Thereby, the company will inform about its measures to implement the 10 principles of the Global Compact as well as its contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This report is prepared following the criteria established by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards.
