Fruit leather: The healthy way to snack

If you are looking for healthy alternatives to gummi bears & Co., perk up your ears! Because the latest foodie trend is colourful, delightfully sweet, really delicious and completely without any colourings, additives or preservatives. And best of all, you can easily make it yourself at home! We’re introducing: Fruit Leather! Why this tasty candy is called this is quite simple. Fruit Leather is nothing but baked fruit puree. And because the surface and the supple quality reminds one of leather, we gave it this name.

The type of fruit you use to make this delicious candy is entirely up to you. But you should pay attention to a few things, depending on the fruit: The more fructose the fruit already has, the less you have to help by adding sweeteners – especially because when drying the sweet fruit, the flavour is reinforced. Also, you should allow Fruit Leather made from fruits with a higher water content dry longer, so that the consistency in the end is firm enough. And if you are looking for fruit with light flesh for your enjoyment, make sure that the colour is not lost with a really easy trick: Just purée a little bit of lemon juice into it, then the Leather will turn bright yellow or orange!

Everybody loves berries. With this recipe, we simply turn them into Fruit Leather: Puree 450g berries with 2 tablespoons of honey. Now spread the mass in a thin layer on the preheated baking sheet and place everything in the oven at 50° C for about 4 hours. Then the mass can easily be cut into strips with the knife – and you’re done! And if you’re not going to eat it right away, no problem – because it can be stored in cans for weeks. Have fun trying this great tasty idea!
