Mandarins should be kept in the refrigerator as they lose their flavour at room temperature after just a few days.

Mandarins come from their sisters, the oranges, from the south-west of China and have been known for 4,000 years. While the oranges came with the discovery of the sea route through the Portuguese in the 15th century, the British first brought mandarins to Europe at the beginning of the 19th century.
