Country of origin:
Our mandarins ripen in the best growing areas of the world and, during the winter months, come mainly from Valencia in Spain. In the high and late summer months, they also come from South Africa, Peru, Chile and Australia.
Mandarins should be kept in the refrigerator as they lose their flavour at room temperature after just a few days.
Tips & special features:
In winter, they are a fruity sweet vitamin C supplier; in the summer, they are deliciously refreshing when well cooled. They also taste delicious as freshly squeezed mandarin juice, simply by themselves or as a mix with other fruit juices and cocktails.
Mandarins come from their sisters, the oranges, from the south-west of China and have been known for 4,000 years. While the oranges came with the discovery of the sea route through the Portuguese in the 15th century, the British first brought mandarins to Europe at the beginning of the 19th century.
